Varsity Team

The Pelham High School wrestling team enjoyed a successful season this year. The team was able to compete in all weight classes. They were unable to do this in previous years because of the lack of sufficient participation. Coach Lavett was thrilled to see the interest that was shown at the beginning of the season. The wrestlers worked hard during the preseason to get in shape for their upcoming matches. Many of the wrestlers gave up their days off during the Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays to come and practice. The hard work paid off when the matches finally arrived. The team was able to participate in some large tournaments this season. Some individuals excelled at these tournaments and came home with awards. With no seniors leaving the team, the wrestling team promises to be even better next year.

Freshman Team

This year was the first year for a Junior Varsity wrestling team at PHS. Coaches hoped that by starting younger, the varsity team would benefit in upcoming years. This season many freshman wrestlers got experience not only at the junior varsity level, but also at the varsity level. Coach Parker coached wrestling for the first time this year, while Coach Lavett taught the freshman wrestlers the fundamentals and correct techniques that would help build a sound foundation for future seasons. These fundamentals showed improvements this year, and continued in the following years.These eighteen young men showed great willpower and determination throughout the year that led them to a successful season.
